IVF in the Czech Republicc

In terms of the attractiveness of medical tourism, the Czech Republic ranks among the world's best. One of the reasons is, of course, the relatively low price you pay in relation to the high quality of care you receive. Well, Czech standards of healthcare are just impressive, the IVF sector not excluded. Speaking of advanced laboratory equipment, modern facilities and erudite IVF specialists, we can be sure that Czech IVF clinics are comparable to any found elsewhere in Europe. More than 38 years of experience (the first “test tube baby” was born in November 1982 in Brno) speak for themselves. Also the success rates are above average according to ESHRE annual report from 2016.

Another advantage lies in the legislative environment in the form of liberal laws allowing the donation of both sperm and eggs (strictly anonymous), embryo examination (PGS and PGD), ICSI procedure, assisted hatching and oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing). But beware, these techniques are available only to registered or unregistered heterosexual couples. Same sex couples and single women would not be able to access assisted reproduction legally. Also the maximum age of female patient is strictly limited by the number of 48 + 364 days.

As already mentioned, the Czech Republic is considered one of the most affordable fertility destinations in Europe. The cost of a single own egg IVF cycle can start as low as 2500 EUR while an egg donation cycle may cost around 5000 EUR. It is also important to mention that in the case of acceptance of donor eggs, the patient does not pay the donor's expenses. They are always covered by the clinic (or more precisely, they are included in the total price).

Since the Czech Republic is literally located in the very heart of Europe, the treatment is becoming much more accessible for patients from all over the region. The individual reasons for crossing the Czech border may be various. From long waiting times for treatment in the country of origin (e.g. Great Britain, Canada), through problematic legislation that does not allow freezing eggs (Italy) or excludes anonymity of gamete donors and recipients (Germany). The financial aspect play its role, too.

In addition, the Czechia boasts more than 40 clinics, most of which are located in the country’s capital, Prague. However, it is also worth considering other locations such as Brno and Olomouc. All these beautiful historic cities are very well accessible by air and land, with cheap food and accommodation literally on every corner.

We have established partnerships with many facilities in the Czech Republic. We work with state-of-the-art clinics that have experienced teams with a great attitude , long-term practice and incredible results. Our partner clinics are very accommodating with scheduling and there are enough doctors and staff available to handle the patient load. Personalized, case-by-case approach are the key components that make our partnerships unique.

There is also no law surrounding the maximum age for treatment, but the vast majority of clinics will only treat women up to the age of 50 years. However, some fertility centers had established specialized advanced maternal age units and they treat patients up to 55. The condition is that the patient must undergo a review by an ethic committee that gives approval to the therapy. So if you have exceeded the age limit for IVF in most European countries, do not despair, Spain is your choice!

And this beautiful southern country has another advantage in the number of clinics. There are approximately 240 facilities that offer a wide range of donor eggs from different ethnic backgrounds (Asian, African American, Hispanic, Indian and Caucasian phenotypes). And if you're wondering which cities are the most frequently chosen for IVF treatment, the answer is quite simple: the most popular tourist destinations in Spain. And these are certainly Barcelona, Alicante, Sevilla, Malaga or Madrid.

A single cloud in an otherwise clear blue sky of Spanish reproductive medicine may be the price you have to pay after receiving your final bill. With pricing from 3500 EUR for IVF ICSI and from 6000 EUR for IVF Donor Eggs, there are no doubt that Spain is one of the most expensive IVF destinations in Europe. Additionally, patients have to cover the costs of a medical consultation with a doctor, potential egg donor expenses, and remember that initial advertised prices may not reveal the full cost. But not to hurt them, Spain is also considered one of the leaders in the fertility field. You can expect multilingual teams, the latest advances, and technologies, an impressive range of medical services, long-term experience, high success rates, and last but not least, an individual approach. And that’s definitely worth a try.

Combine your fertility treatment with holidays in one of the world’s most desired destinations. The friendly visa policy of the Schengen Area, an adequate offer of direct and charter flights from all over the world, and the sunny nature of the climate are just a bonus to an already well-chosen location.
